On February 24 and 25, 2012, Just Food hosted its annual conference at Food & Finance High School. The two-day conference combined Just Food’s 12th annual Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in NYC Conference and 5th Major Food Summit. Highlights included:

Food Talks by author and food policy expert Joan Gussow; Just Food Executive Director Jacquie Berger; The BLK ProjeK Executive Director Tanya Fields; Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster Garrett Oliver; and Owner/Chef of Egg, George Weld.

The Future in Food Panel featured five leaders in the field who spoke about how they got their dream jobs: Harlem Brewing Company CEO/CBO Celeste Beatty; Natural Foods Chef, Author and Television Host Andrea Beaman; Edible Magazine Publisher Brian Halweil; School Food FOCUS Program Director Kathy Lawrence; and Entrepreneur and Kopali Organics Co-Founder Zak Zaidman.

The Good Food Jobs Fair: Hosted by GoodFoodJobs.com, job seekers obtained ideas for employment while getting face time with food businesses and potential employers. The fair featured businesses, organizations, and education programs talking about opportunities in the field.

Farmer Panel: Attendees heard about the state of farming from the people who know it best—local farmers: Yonnette Fleming, Hattie Carthan Community Garden; David Haughton, Trinity Farm; Ana I. Rodriquez Angel, Angel Family Farm; John Schmid, Muddy River Farm; Chris Kaplan-Walbrecht, Garden of Eve.

EXPO: Attendees enjoyed samples and information from exemplary local food and beverage artisans, sustainable businesses, and organizations and networked with fellow conference participants.
