Each year, Just Food organizes farm trips to bring staff, volunteer and clients from food pantries participating in Local Produce Link to visit the farm that their produce is coming from.

In August and September of 2009, we went on a total of six farm trips, which allowed us to visit all seven of our Local Produce Link farms.  Food pantry staff, volunteers and clients from 27 of our participating food pantries were able to visit their farm this year!  Those that came on our trips learned all sorts of interesting things:

  • "Potatoes and sweet potatoes REALLY come from the ground!"
  • "Growing vegetables is a labor of love requiring dedication and hard work"
  • "I enjoyed everything but most of all, our hosts"
  • "This was the first time the kids got out of the city"
  • "You can just eat the Japanese turnips raw.  Now I can buy them a little more often."
  • "Now I get ideas to plant a pepper or pumpkin"
