Cool and Crisp

Summer is here! The air will be hot, the sun strong and days long – with ample opportunities to soak up all the summer sun and fun. This year, beat the heat with nature's very own array of refreshingly cool heat buster veggies and fruits. Delight in these light-to-digest, water-based vegetables and fruits that cool you down from the inside out. Not only are they deliciously cool but they will keep you well hydrated.

SPRING INTO SOME GREENS

After a seriously long and cold New York winter it is finally time to put those heavy winter jackets into storage, finish up those potatoes and winter squashes, and get some greens back in your life. New produce is flooding into your local farmers’ markets in the form of freshly harvested vegetables and greens. COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS AND NUTRITION EDUCATION

Below are resources on nutrition education and classes for your food pantry or soup kitchen:

City Harvest provides cooking and nutrition education programming for adults, children and families at a variety of community based organizations within the City Harvest Healthy Neighborhoods. These programs include 6-8 week courses, cooking demonstrations and supermarket shopping tours.

COMMUNITY CHEF TRAINING

Just Food is now accepting applications for the 2016 Community Chef program. The application is due on Wednesday, April 6th, 5:00 pm. Thank you.

Our Community Chef Training program teaches community members how to facilitate workshops about local, seasonal eating and cooking; basic nutrition; fruit and vegetable identification; recipe selection and creation; knife skills; and food storage and preparation.
