VISTA
WHAT IS VISTA?
VISTA stands for Volunteers in Service To America. A branch of the national service organization AmeriCorps, the VISTA program was designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA members commit one year of full-time service to a non-profit organization. During that year they work to build the capacity and sustainability of the organization to fight poverty.
VISTA members strengthen the communities they work and live in through projects related to health, social justice, environmentalism, literacy, early and continuing education, hunger prevention, homelessness and community development. About 6,500 VISTAs are placed each year in more than 1,200 projects around the country.
